The Children are Our Future

I watched two young fast food employees sneak into the dumpster corral to smoke a joint, and I suddenly had a great feeling of hope for the future.

Ed or Edna

New portrait of beloved cinema visionary Edward D. Wood, Jr. Eddie's eyes are closed because most of my reference for his likeness came from watching Glen or Glenda, in which he keeps his eyes cast down in moping anguish over his cross-dressing secret throughout most of the running time. Wood's in semi-drag here, with only his angora sweater and haughty posture symbolically revealing his feminine mystique. Though he was a fellow traveler in Hollywood's gay community, Wood was careful to stress that transvestism was not necessarily in conflict with a straight man's machismo. Ed was a man's man. He just really, really liked angora, okay?

In case you were wondering - and how could you not? Though I adore Plan Nine, my favorite Ed Wood picture is Bride of the Monster, thanks to its high percentage of both Bela Lugosi and the great Tor Johnson. All in all, Ed's movies are among the few artifacts of our decaying culture truly worth celebrating.

Intergalactic Bootleg

Celebrating classic bootleg action figures of decades past, here is Space Flyman. Which one is Space Flyman? According to the minimal packaging of these collectible Chinese figures, any or all of them were. Fabric colors varied wildly depending on which scraps were on a particular sweatshop seamstress' table at the time. God bless this money-grubbing world of trademark-infringing, dime store garbage.

Commissions? Why, of course!

"Will you draw me and my dog and my late Uncle Hortense?" Try and stop me!

Yes, colorful digital portraits will seem to magically appear at your request - which is quite a trick considering the great personal suffering involved in perfecting these masterpieces. But all you need worry about is providing photo reference of the accused and the meager funds to make it happen.
